I’ve been exploring photography for many years. Got a fairly late start compared to many others, not ‘til I was in my late twenties. Spent a fair amount of time in a black and white darkroom pulling prints. It was amazing how the time flew by. My wife would often shake me out of there after 7-9 hours asking if I was still alive. While I wouldn’t trade any of that time learning how to make a great print, I really appreciate the ability to make a better print in less time with more consistency.
I was one of the photographers who said I’ll never go digital. Apparently I didn’t see where digital capture was heading. I’ve now embraced it and am using it’s strengths to capture the world as I wish it to be seen. New techniques allow the complete density range of a scene to be represented while certain types of manipulation using Photoshop and other software make the hue, saturation and color and other artistic choices a possibility. These tools need to be applied judiciously. As I learned early in digital experimentation, and exploration just because you can do something with an image, doesn’t mean you should.
Lately I’ve been spending time studying other art forms including, oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels in galleries and museums and I’m finding painting techniques that help give more depth to my images. I hope you’ll spend some time with my art and subscribe to the RSS feed so when new images are posted you can follow along where art is taking me.
